Success Academy CEO and founder Eva Moskowitz has stated that she had two objectives when she started Success Academy, the largest charter school in New York City. She founded the school ten years ago, and wanted to open a high-performing educational institution that would hopefully improve the American education system.
She confirms that there are no plans at the moment to expand Success Academy outside of NYC, but Moskowitz has started a new online platform that aims to extend educational resources beyond the largest school district in the United States.
The online portal is called the Success Academy Education Institute, and Moskowitz, along with other Success Academy leaders, unveiled the new project recently from their Lower Manhattan headquarters. The portal is free of charge, and provides access to the curriculum and strategies for teacher development that are utilized at Success Academy’s 41 NYC schools.
Moskowitz shares that there are far too many American children who are “trapped in schools” where they are not learning to read, write or do mathematics an science, even at the basic level. She asserts that Success Academy will help to change this. Moskowitz is also a Democratic councilwoman who withdrew from consideration for education secretary under President Trump. She says that the Ed Institute is a vehicle for sharing knowledge and support with teachers around the country and the world. This latest initiative also address the overall mission of the charter school movement, which is to experiment with educational approaches and to share lessons and new methods with those in the education community.
The online platform currently offers the a literacy curriculum for children in grades kindergarten through four, and helps to introduce teachers to the mantra of Success Academy. This fall, the network has plans to open a training facility for teachers in Manhattan’s Hudson Yards. There will also be a lab school for students in kindergarten through eighth grade.
